Best Hours Tracker Apps for Hourly Workers in 2026

We compared seven hours tracker apps on the US App Store on pricing, overtime rules, tax estimates and export. Each one fits a different worker.

Disclosure: ClockWage44, listed on the App Store as Hours Tracker: Time + Pay, is our app. We built this comparison honestly, including areas where competitors have advantages. Ratings and pricing come from the US App Store via the iTunes Search API, as of September 2026.

Quick answer

There is no single winner here. These seven apps are not really doing the same job. ClockWage44 is the only one whose listing puts federal and state tax, FICA and deductions on top of the hours, so the app shows a take-home figure instead of a gross one. Hours Tracker: Time Tracking by Cribasoft, LLC is the deepest tracker: timers, geofencing, mileage, tips and an Apple Watch app. It has been on the App Store since 2009. Hours Tracker: Time Calculator by Appostrophe AB has more ratings than anything else here, 82,400 on the US App Store, and it is a plain weekly timesheet with gross pay.

Punch Time Clock by Trent Morris is the only app on this page whose paid features unlock with a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. Work Hours & Pay Calculator by Lesya Verbina gives the whole feature set away free and charges 1.99 dollars only to remove ads. Hours - Tracker & Time Clock by One Wave AB is a simple clock with a paid tier, though its last update was November 2020. Shift Day Work Calendar: Spoke by PIXO Incorporation is a shift calendar first, built around rotations and color-coded shifts rather than pay.

Pick by the thing you actually want. For some people that is the number on the check. For others it is the deepest tracker, or simply the lowest price.

The apps

1. ClockWage44

ClockWage44 Our Pick

ClockWage44 is an hours tracker with a paycheck engine attached. You tap a day, enter a start time, an end time and break minutes, and the app updates gross and net pay as you type. The listing claims federal and state income tax for all 50 states and DC, plus Social Security, Medicare and additional Medicare tax. It also covers recurring deductions such as 401(k), HSA, health insurance, union dues and garnishments, and recurring extra income such as tips, bonuses and reimbursements. Overtime runs daily past 8 hours, weekly past 40, or manual, with custom multipliers. A June 2026 update added daily 10 and 12 hour and weekly 44 and 48 hour thresholds, plus shift differentials for evening, night, weekend and holiday pay.

It has been on the App Store since 2026 and is on Google Play as com.ehmtech.clock. It was updated in August 2026, and it works offline with no account. What the listing does not do is draw a line between free and Pro. It lists the whole feature set without saying which parts need a subscription, so treat the free tier as unknown until the listing says otherwise.

Pros
  • The only listing here that states federal tax, state tax and FICA on top of hours
  • Overtime modes for daily past 8, weekly past 40 or manual, with custom multipliers
  • Recurring deductions and recurring extra income, per job, with separate rate and tax settings
  • No account, no ads, works offline, exports PDF and CSV
Cons
  • 4.43 from 7 US App Store ratings, a very thin base next to apps with tens of thousands
  • The listing never says which features are free and which need Pro
  • English only, no Apple Watch app, and no native Mac app

Pricing: Free to download. Pro is 3.99 dollars a week or 29.99 dollars a year, with no introductory offer, and comes with a 7-day free trial.

Best for: hourly workers who want the number that lands on the check rather than the hours alone.

2. Hours Tracker: Time Calculator by Appostrophe AB

Hours Tracker: Time Calculator Most Rated

Hours Tracker: Time Calculator has 82,400 US App Store ratings at 4.69, more than any other app on this page. It is a plain weekly timesheet: enter a start and end time each day, deduct time for breaks, add an hourly salary, and see weekly totals and the history of previous weeks in your local currency. Release notes from July 2024 added multiple jobs, a per-entry salary and night shifts, none of which reached the description. Export goes out as Excel or CSV, and log reminders can nudge you at start and end times.

It is iPhone only, has been on the App Store since 2019, and was last updated in September 2024. The listing ends with the line that it is all for free. The store, meanwhile, sells Premium Weekly and Premium Yearly subscriptions, and nothing on the store page says what Premium adds. The listing never mentions overtime, and reviewers say the calculation is missing. One writes that there is no way for it to calculate overtime, so they end up doing it themselves. Reviewers also say the app is simple and easy to use, and several complain about repeated review prompts and upgrade pop-ups.

Pros
  • The largest rating base here, 82,400 US App Store ratings at 4.69
  • Breaks, weekly totals and a history of previous weeks
  • Multiple jobs and a per-entry pay rate since a July 2024 update
  • Excel and CSV export, plus start and end reminders
Cons
  • Last updated in September 2024
  • The description calls it all free while the store sells two subscriptions with unstated contents
  • The listing does not mention overtime, and reviewers say it is absent
  • iPhone only, and no tax or deduction handling on the listing

Pricing: Free to download. Premium from Appostrophe AB is 4.99 dollars a week or 29.99 dollars a year, and what it unlocks is not spelled out on the store listing.

Best for: someone who wants a simple weekly timesheet with gross pay and nothing else.

3. Hours Tracker: Time Tracking by Cribasoft

Hours Tracker: Time Tracking

Hours Tracker: Time Tracking has been on the App Store since 2009 and is the most complete tracker on this page. It records time with timers that support breaks and pauses, including automatic breaks, or by manual entry with adaptive defaults. It calculates daily and weekly overtime earnings and tracks tips and mileage. Time can be rounded up, down or to the nearest interval, including 6 minutes. Reports run by day, week and month across common pay period schedules, and clock in and out can be fully automated with job locations and geofencing. There is an Apple Watch app, a home screen widget, tagging and filtering, and a passcode lock with Touch ID and Face ID.

It was updated in September 2026 on iOS and in March 2026 on Android, where it is listed as com.cribasoft.HoursTrackerFree.Android and rates 3.6 from about 6,400 reviews, against 4.77 from 55,887 ratings on the App Store. The Free Edition stores up to 3 jobs and 21 days of entries, and the listing carries ads. Its privacy label declares Usage Data used to track you. Tax is the gap. The listing never mentions tax, withholding or net pay, though reviewers describe entering a flat percentage themselves. Reviewers say they have used it daily for years and find it reliable. They say the subscription and the 21-day cap arrived without warning, and one writes that it stops working after 21 days without a subscription. Reviewers also say the ads on the free edition are intrusive.

Pros
  • Timers with automatic breaks, plus geofenced clock in and out
  • Tips, mileage, time rounding and reports across common pay period schedules
  • Apple Watch app, widget, tagging and a passcode lock
  • On both the App Store and Google Play, and updated in September 2026 on iOS
Cons
  • The free edition stops at 3 jobs and 21 days of entries
  • Ads, and a privacy label declaring Usage Data used to track you
  • No tax or net pay anywhere on the listing
  • Unlimited costs 47.99 dollars a year, the highest recurring price here

Pricing: Free to download. From Cribasoft, LLC, Premium is 4.99 dollars a month or 29.99 dollars a year for up to 5 jobs, and Unlimited is 6.99 dollars a month or 47.99 dollars a year for unlimited jobs.

Best for: someone who wants the deepest tracking features and will pay a subscription for them.

4. Punch Time Clock by Trent Morris

Punch Time Clock Top Rated

Punch Time Clock has the highest rating on this page, 4.79 from 35,974 US App Store ratings, just ahead of Cribasoft’s 4.77 from a larger base. You clock in, take breaks and clock out with a tap. If you forget to clock out, you can fix it with a retroactive adjustment or build the shift from scratch. It calculates daily and weekly overtime, but only for Weekly and Biweekly pay schedules, so a monthly or twice-monthly schedule falls outside that by the listing’s own words. Timesheets show hours worked and estimated earnings.

It is iPhone only, has been on the App Store since 2018, and was last updated in April 2025. The pricing is the unusual part: there is no subscription at all, just a one-time Pro Upgrade at 7.99 dollars that adds pay estimates, PDF and CSV export, shift notes and tagging. The three Tip entries in the store are a developer tip jar, not tiers. The current description never mentions tax or net pay, though a release note from March 2019 describes an optional tax rate field in settings. Reviewers say the app is simple and fast, and they say the free tier stops at the pay and export features. A recurring complaint in reviews is the break function, with reports of breaks miscounting time or refusing to start.

Pros
  • The highest US App Store rating here, 4.79 from 35,974 ratings
  • One-time 7.99 dollar Pro Upgrade instead of a subscription
  • One-tap clocking with breaks and easy retroactive fixes
  • PDF and CSV export on Pro
Cons
  • Overtime is scoped to Weekly and Biweekly pay schedules only
  • No tax or net pay in the current description, only an optional tax rate field named in a 2019 release note
  • Tags stand in for multiple jobs, and tags need Pro
  • iPhone only, and last updated in April 2025

Pricing: Free to clock in and out. Pro Upgrade is 7.99 dollars, one-time, and there is no trial because there is no subscription.

Best for: anyone who wants a clean punch clock and refuses to rent one.

5. Hours - Tracker & Time Clock by One Wave AB

Hours - Tracker & Time Clock

Hours - Tracker & Time Clock keeps a live timer during a shift and tracks hours and earnings by the minute, or takes hours entered by hand. The Log page shows weekly overviews of shifts worked with total hours and earnings for that week. The listing calls the core free and marks five features as paid: Earnings and Taxes, Multiple Jobs, Export, Reminders and Passcode Protection. The tax feature is described only as calculating earnings and deducting taxes, so the listing does not say how the tax is worked out.

It is iPhone only, has been on the App Store since 2017, and was last updated in November 2020. That is why the store page has no privacy label at all, only the line that details are required at the next update. The listing never mentions overtime, and reviewers keep asking for it. Reviewers say the app is easy and does one job well. They say the free tier is too limited, with one writing that the free version has a single sample job that cannot even be renamed. Reviewers also say breaks are not deducted automatically, that shifts crossing midnight have to be split in two, and that the job list is capped at 5.

Pros
  • Live timer that tracks hours and earnings by the minute
  • Weekly overviews of hours and earnings on the Log page
  • Earnings and taxes on the paid tier, which most apps here do not offer at all
  • The cheapest monthly subscription here at 2.99 dollars
Cons
  • Last updated in November 2020, and the store page has no privacy label
  • No overtime anywhere on the listing
  • Breaks, overnight shifts, tips and deductions are all unaddressed by the listing
  • Multiple jobs, export and reminders all sit behind the subscription

Pricing: Free to download. Personal is 2.99 dollars a month or 29.99 dollars a year, and the store page also lists a second annual entry at 19.99 dollars.

Best for: someone who wants a basic timer and weekly earnings and does not need overtime.

6. Shift Day Work Calendar: Spoke by PIXO Incorporation

Shift Day Work Calendar: Spoke

Shift Day Work Calendar: Spoke is a shift calendar rather than a pay tracker. You add or remove a shift with a single tap and apply a rotation to fill the calendar in a few steps. Shifts get a color and a short name, days take memos, a widget shows what is coming up, and push notifications fire for shift events. A schedule can be shared with family through Group Calendars. It syncs with iCloud across iPhone and iPad, and a July 2026 update added importing shifts from an image. It has 31 languages, far more than anything else here.

It is on iPhone, iPad and Android, was updated in September 2026 on iOS and July 2026 on Android, and rates 4.71 from 14,349 App Store ratings against 4.3 from 384 reviews on Google Play. Nothing on the listing mentions overtime, tax, deductions, breaks or file export, and the free tier is never spelled out. Reviewers say it is easy and fast, that color-coding shifts is the feature they love, and that rotation auto-fill handles patterns that are not weekly. Reviewers also describe an earnings report built on a pay rate, which the listing does not mention, and they complain about how much sits behind the paywall.

Pros
  • Rotation auto-fill for schedules that are not seven days long
  • Color-coded shifts, memos, a widget and shared Group Calendars
  • 31 languages, and iPhone, iPad and Android builds
  • Updated in September 2026 on iOS
Cons
  • No overtime, tax, deduction or break handling on the listing
  • No file export, only email, print and sharing
  • Ads, per its Google Play listing, and a privacy label declaring Identifiers and Usage Data used to track you
  • The description quotes 2.99 dollars monthly and 24.99 yearly while the entries named Month-Subscription and Year-Subscription are 4.99 and 34.99

Pricing: Free to download. The store lists 4.99 dollars a month, 34.99 dollars a year, a 24.99 dollar Yearly Subscription Special Offer, a 2.99 dollar Pro Upgrade Now and a 79.99 dollar Pro Upgrade.

Best for: nurses and other shift workers who need the rotation on a calendar more than they need the pay math.

7. Work Hours & Pay Calculator by Lesya Verbina

Work Hours & Pay Calculator Best Value

Work Hours & Pay Calculator gives away every feature it advertises and charges 1.99 dollars only to remove ads, which is why it takes Best Value here. You set working hours for each day of the week and see daily, weekly and monthly totals for hours worked and money earned. It adds overtime, night shift and weekend pay rates, handles night shifts and 24-hour shifts, and excludes breaks and days off from the calculation. There is a tipped worker mode for estimated tips per weekday, a currency picker, and no cap on the number of timesheets.

It is iPhone only, has been on the App Store since 2019, was updated in July 2026, and comes in four languages: English, Czech, Russian and Ukrainian. It rates 4.76 from 14,000 US App Store ratings. The listing describes money earned and never mentions tax, withholding or deductions. It never mentions export either. Reviewers say the app is simple and easy to use and that the overtime, night shift and weekend rates are useful, though some report overtime on weekends calculating wrong. They also say there are no calendar dates on the days, no way to export or email a timesheet, only weekly pay periods, and gross pay with no way to factor in tax.

Pros
  • Every advertised feature is free; the only purchase removes ads for 1.99 dollars
  • Overtime, night shift and weekend pay rates, plus 24-hour shifts
  • Tipped worker mode for estimated tips per weekday
  • Unlimited timesheets, four languages, updated in July 2026
Cons
  • No tax, net pay or deductions anywhere on the listing
  • No export stated, and reviewers say there is no way to send a timesheet to a boss
  • Reviewers say sheets are weekly only and carry no calendar dates
  • Ads until you pay, and a privacy label declaring a Device ID used to track you

Pricing: Free with ads, from Lesya Verbina. A single in-app purchase, Remove Ads, costs 1.99 dollars. There is no subscription.

Best for: anyone who wants overtime and tip tracking at no cost and does not need to export anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app to track work hours and pay?

It depends on what you need. ClockWage44 is the only app here whose listing claims federal and state income tax plus Social Security and Medicare on top of hours. Hours Tracker: Time Tracking by Cribasoft, LLC has the deepest feature list, including geofencing, mileage and an Apple Watch app. Punch Time Clock by Trent Morris is the only one that unlocks its paid features for a one-time price, 7.99 dollars for Pro. Work Hours & Pay Calculator by Lesya Verbina is free with ads and asks 1.99 dollars to remove them. Shift Day Work Calendar: Spoke by PIXO Incorporation is a shift calendar with rotations rather than a pay tool.

Which hours tracker apps are actually free?

Work Hours & Pay Calculator by Lesya Verbina is free with ads, and its only in-app purchase removes them for 1.99 dollars. Punch Time Clock is free to clock in and out, with pay estimates, export, notes and tags behind a one-time 7.99 dollar Pro Upgrade. Hours Tracker: Time Tracking by Cribasoft, LLC gives a Free Edition of 3 jobs and 21 days of entries. Hours - Tracker & Time Clock by One Wave AB calls its core tracking free and puts earnings, taxes, multiple jobs, export, reminders and passcode behind a subscription. The listings for ClockWage44 and for Hours Tracker: Time Calculator by Appostrophe AB do not say where the free tier ends.

Three apps here are called Hours Tracker. Which is which?

Hours Tracker: Time Calculator is by Appostrophe AB, id 1468092377, on the App Store since 2019 and last updated in September 2024. Hours Tracker: Time Tracking is by Cribasoft, LLC, id 336456412, on the App Store since 2009 and last updated in September 2026. Our own app, ClockWage44, also carries the Hours Tracker name on the App Store, id 6762208276, and is the only one of the three that is on both the App Store and Google Play with a tax estimate on its listing.

Which of these apps estimate take-home pay after tax?

ClockWage44 states federal and state income tax for all 50 states and DC, plus Social Security, Medicare and additional Medicare tax. Hours - Tracker & Time Clock by One Wave AB lists Earnings and Taxes as a paid feature, described on its listing as calculating earnings and deducting taxes. Punch Time Clock does not mention tax in its current description, though a March 2019 release note names an optional tax rate setting. No other listing here mentions tax, withholding or net pay, so the rest produce gross pay only.

Do I need an account to track hours?

ClockWage44 states that no account is required and that it works offline. Hours Tracker: Time Tracking by Cribasoft, LLC needs no account for tracking, but a free account is required for its included cloud backup slot, and web reporting is a separate subscription. The other five listings say nothing about an account either way, so treat that as unknown rather than as a no.
