Quick answer

Punch Time Clock by Trent Morris, shortened to “Punch” in its own description, is a tap-to-clock timer for iPhone that has been on the App Store since 2018. You clock in, take a break, clock out, and the app builds the timesheet. The listing has limits, though. It is iPhone only and was last updated in April 2025. The pay and export features sit behind a one-time $7.99 Pro Upgrade.

ClockWage44, listed on the App Store as Hours Tracker: Time + Pay, is a shift log with a paycheck estimate built in. You tap a day, enter start time, end time and break, and it estimates gross and net pay using federal and state tax for all 50 states and DC. It is free to download, with Pro sold as a subscription.

If you want to hit a button when your shift starts and read your hours back later, Punch Time Clock. If the number you actually care about is what lands in your bank account, ClockWage44. For the wider field, see our roundup of hours tracker apps.

Where Punch Time Clock wins

Clocking in is one tap. The listing puts it as “Clock in, take breaks, and clock out with a simple tap.” If you forget, you can make retroactive adjustments, or build a shift from scratch and edit an existing one. ClockWage44’s listing describes a form instead: you tap a day and type start time, end time and break minutes.

It has been road-tested by a lot of people. Punch Time Clock has been on the App Store since 2018 and carries 4.79 from 35,974 US ratings. ClockWage44 launched in April 2026 and has 4.43 from 7 US ratings, which is far too small a sample to mean much. Reviewers say Punch Time Clock is simple and fast to use, with one calling the design “very clean, user-friendly” and convenient.

You pay once. Pro Upgrade is a one-time $7.99 purchase that unlocks pay estimates, timesheet exporting, notes and tagging. There is no subscription on the listing, so nothing renews and there is no trial to cancel. ClockWage44’s Pro is a subscription.

Tags cut the timesheet the way you want. The listing offers Tags to categorize shifts and filter timesheets by job, client or project. That is not the same as separate jobs with their own rates, but for a contractor sorting one rate across several clients it does the filtering job.

Where ClockWage44 wins

It answers the take-home question. ClockWage44 estimates federal and state income tax for all 50 states and DC, plus Social Security, Medicare and additional Medicare tax, so the figure on screen is net, not gross. Punch Time Clock’s current description covers estimated earnings and pay estimates and never mentions tax; the only tax reference on its listing is an optional tax rate field named in a March 2019 release note.

Overtime covers more shift patterns. ClockWage44 offers daily past 8 hours, weekly past 40, or manual, with custom multipliers, and a June 2026 update added daily 10 and 12 hour and weekly 44 and 48 hour thresholds. The same update added shift differentials for evening, night, weekend and holiday pay. Punch Time Clock calculates daily and weekly overtime, scoped by its own listing to weekly and biweekly pay schedules.

Each job keeps its own settings. ClockWage44 gives every job a separate rate, color and tax setting. It also tracks recurring tips, bonuses and reimbursements, and recurring deductions for 401(k), HSA, health insurance, union dues and garnishments. Punch Time Clock’s job separation is Tags, and tagging sits behind Pro.

It runs on more devices, and offline. ClockWage44 is listed for iPhone and iPad on the App Store and for Android on Google Play, with no account required and full offline use. Punch Time Clock is iPhone only, with no iPad, Apple Watch or Android version, and it was last updated in April 2025.

Pricing

  • ClockWage44 is free to download, with Pro sold as a subscription: $3.99 a week or $29.99 a year. There is a 7-day free trial and no introductory offer. What the free tier includes and what Pro unlocks are not spelled out on the store page.
  • Punch Time Clock by Trent Morris says in its own description: “Punch is completely free, with no limits. Upgrade to Punch PRO with a one-time purchase for advanced features like pay estimates, timesheet exporting, notes and tagging.” In practice that means free to clock in and out and read your timesheets, with pay estimates, PDF and CSV export, notes and tags behind a one-time $7.99 Pro Upgrade. There is no trial, because there is nothing recurring to trial. The three “Tip” purchases on the listing, $1.99, $4.99 and $19.99, are a tip jar for the developer, not tiers or features.

Over a first year that is $29.99 for ClockWage44 Pro against $7.99 once for Punch Time Clock’s Pro Upgrade, and nothing more after that. Reviewers say the free tier stops right where the pay and export features begin.

Which one should you pick?

Pick Punch Time Clock if you work one rate and want something on your iPhone that feels like a punch clock. It also suits anyone who would rather pay $7.99 once than subscribe. It is the better fit when hours are the deliverable and you only need a clean PDF or CSV at the end of the period.

Pick ClockWage44 if you want the pay side solved: net pay after federal and state tax, overtime thresholds you can set, shift differentials, tips and deductions, and separate jobs with their own rates. It is also the only one of the two available on Android or iPad.

If you want to run the numbers before you install anything, our free take-home pay calculator estimates net pay from an hourly rate and your state, and the overtime calculator checks time-and-a-half and daily or weekly thresholds. Both run in the browser, with no download and no account.
